Jakob is a Berliner, from Kreuzberg to be exact. As all good parents do, his wanted him to play an instrument. After years of successfully dodging music lessons and his parent’s wishes, he finally at the subtle age of 15 decided that he desperately needed a bass guitar, which then through diligent practice manoeuvred him from hardcore bands to funk and jazz bands. But suddenly, there was a small problem: he liked Techno parties much better than rock concerts. So, as one does, he began buying the odd techno maxi here and there until one day little Jakob thought to himself: “Why heck, I can do that too!” So off he went and bought himself an overpriced Atari St40 and a cheap synthesizer, only to realize that oops those guys from Detroit really do know what they’re doing and that it wasn’t that easy after all. Well, that is basically where Jacob’s ambitiously planned out life suddenly took a screeching of the wheels turn in another direction…. Franziskus is from Erfurt, a small and rural part of Germanys quite rough and wild East, which didn’t stop him from starting piano lessons at the innocent age of 6. His musical interests took him from the usual suspects like Michael Jackson and The Pet Shop Boys through to Hardcore (obviously not on the piano). But then one day, or night to be exact similar to Jakob, all was to suddenly change….. A fortuitous night out at the legendary E-Werk in 1993, made this young mans heartbeat skip from Chopin over to a 4/4 beat where it was to remain, probably forever. Three years later Franziskus took up residency at the infamous Sub ground Lighthouse After hour, resulting in numerous further bookings. The paths of these two young men crossed whilst they were both studying to be sound engineers. Seeing as all the other students in there year were long haired Metal heads it was only a matter of time until their paths crossed. So, after spending a few long Berlin party nights together they decided to see if they could start a project together. And so the story ends or better yet, begins with Format:B….

Maetrik
Originally from the USA and now relocated to Valencia Spain, Eric Estornel is making incredible leaps and strides releasing some of the most devastating yet unique music in the industry. His sudonyms Maetrik, Mariel Ito, Plaex, and now Maceo Plex are under great demand for the rich dynamic production and unique blend of techno, house, funk, and electro that only Eric can devise. Perhaps it's because of Eric's clear Cuban roots or his years in the game, but without a doubt 2009 was an incredible year and only more amazing things are expected of his truly unarguable talent. 10 years since his first release on the respected Immigrant Records back in 2000 and Eric is still holding strong to his quest for the future of dance. Whether working on his "other worldly" compositions as Maetrik, his alien sounding electro as Mariel Ito, or his innovative dark house music as Maceo Plex, Eric is always putting his blood sweat and tears into everything he does. Putting aside trends and crushing genre boundaries, no one can argue that Eric has always stayed true to what comes from his heart or his sometimes choatic mind. Watch out for more killer music on his USA homebase Claude Vonstroke's Mothership imprint. Or devasting Europe brands Dumb Unit, Treibstoff, and Audiomatique. For now Eric's Maceo Plex house album is a bit hush hush, but be looking for it on one of the most innovative and brightest labels out of the UK....it' will surprise those out there that didn't know such soul could come out of the one most call MAETRIK. -
Le Loup
Parisian based dj/producer Le Loup released his first EP early 2009 which features a notable collaboration with talented producer Nicolas Jaar. “See Line” was released on Wolf + Lamb and has been one of their best selling releases to date. Since then he didn’t stopped developing his unique, gritty and often arhythmical sound, releasing remixes for Airdrop or Etoka, starting a new collaboration with Soul Clap and preparing new EPs for key labels likeSeuil’s Eklo or Kasper’s Esperanza and upcoming imprints like Aux-Rec. -
